The word chakra means wheel or circle. Chakras are energy centers within the body that are believed to correlate with different aspects of physical, emotional, and mental well-being. There are seven main chakras located along the spine, from the base up to the crown of the head. Each chakra is associated with a specific color, element, sound, and aspect of life. Chakras are reinforced by our breath, positive thoughts, eating healthy, and with movement. This energy in our body expands when it receives positive things. Just as your mind and body’s energy adjusts with different external forces — for example, being stressed or sleep-deprived — chakras can also be affected by things likes lifestyle habits and emotions. This is because chakras are intertwined with the mental, emotional and spiritual parts of your body.
The root chakra relates to grounding and survival instincts, while the sacral chakra is associated with creativity and sexuality. The solar plexus chakra is connected to personal power and self-worth, and the heart chakra represents love and compassion. The throat chakra is linked to communication and self-expression, while the third eye chakra correlates with intuition and wisdom. Finally, the crown chakra is connected to spiritual connection and enlightenment.
